Interview with a graduate of KU

As I am not only a blogger but also an ambassador, today I would like to tell you more information about KU from its alumni.
I interviewed my friend who graduated from KU in 2013. Briefly, her name is Tanya and she is from Belarus. She has a BBA in Management degree in English and currently lives in Minsk, Belarus.

– Why did you choose to study at Kozminski University?

– First, I was looking for foreign universities, which have management programs in English. At the same time, I was interested in neighborhood countries because I did not have experience of living alone far away from parents at that time. Therefore, I chose Poland and Kozminski University since this was the most appropriate option regarding price and quality. Moreover, Kozminski University has a lot of accreditations and a huge variety of programs.

– Did you change your opinion about university during studies?

– In general, it was positively the same and did not change a lot. However, there were some negative moments: some subjects seemed useless or some lecturers was not interesting.
From time to time, I faced too much bureaucracy in the university but every year I noticed that the learning environment was becoming more comfortable, students had more and more power and their opinion was important.

– Do you have any funny stories about studies?

– Oh, there were plenty of funny stories. Especially bright were those, which include our lecturers. During the subject “Introduction to Organizational Theory” our lecturer Dariusz Jemielniak set up a rule – everyone who was late more than 5 minutes has to tell a joke, sing a song or dance. It was always interesting what this or that student would show. By the way, during Christmas time we were late on purpose and sang Jingle Bells and Last Christmas together in the classroom. One time Mr. Jemielniak was late himself and had to tell a joke which I remember still (smiling).

–  What was the most interesting during your studies?

– Personally, lecturers and the way they explain their subjects impressed me. Everyone tries to make his or her subject funny and interesting. We built a tower of pasta, staples and paper, evaluated coffee houses in Warsaw, painted posters, competed in the ability to negotiate and even filmed a video. The multicultural environment also was a big plus. I met many interesting people from all over the world and still keep in touch with some of them.

– Did you change your career goals after graduation?

– Yes, I did. While studying in university I dreamed about career in marketing. However, after graduation I worked in this sphere only for some time realized that marketing is very interesting but it is not the sphere, which I want to dedicate my life to. Nowadays, the opportunity to teach others seems attractive to me because of lecturers in the Kozminski University and their satisfaction and dedication to the work. Thanks to their way of teaching, I looked at this profession from other point of view.

– Do you feel yourself more attractive as an employee on the market because of KU degree?

– I have not had any difficulties finding a job with KU diploma. I am usually invited to four interviews from five. Sometimes employer is a bit worried that you will demand a higher salary because of the diploma but still it is rare to have some problems.

– What are you doing now? What are your plans for the future?

– Currently I am applying to the master program, collecting documents. I hope to get a master degree in the Netherlands or one of Scandinavian countries. After I am going to work in marketing sphere or try to become a teaching assistant.

– Do you have any advice for KU students?

– I guess so. Before studies, it is better to learn some Polish, at least general phrases. In addition, I recommend coming to Warsaw in 2 weeks before studies in order to explore the city a bit. During free time, I usually went to the city center, different cafes, museums or concerts. Regarding a future job, it is better to start looking for it after the second semester; Career Office in the university could help you a lot with it.
