During the last few years Poland has become one of the European hubs for entrepreneurial thinking, innovation and the creation of start-up companies. There are many public as well as private initiatives that support young entrepreneurs on their way to become successful business owners.

One of these initiatives is the Foundation for Strategic Competence Development which organizes several workshops and seminars to improve key skills among young academics and entrepreneurs in Poland.

On Thursday, the 29th of January, several Kozminski Students had the chance to participate in a workshop held by Harvard Business School Professor Stefan H. Thomke. The workshop took place within the premises of the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

What was the workshop all about?

Prof. Stefan H. Thomke is an expert in all matters related to the management of innovation within a company. During the full day workshop, we were discussing key questions like “Why are some companies more innovative (successful) than others?” or “What characterises a successful innovation system?”

Already in the welcome speech by Prof Piotr Ploszajski, the workshop participants were advised to ask essential questions and do not take anything in the business world for a constant parameter. He encourages us to question prevalent business models in the same way you would aks your partner in a relationship – “Do you still love me?”.

Throughout the afternoon, we covered various aspects of innovation in an interactive manner, so that all participants could share their opinions and existing experience.

For us Kozminksi Students, this day was full of inspiration and we were also assured that Poland is the place to be when it comes to the set-up of a new, innovative company!
