Trip to Washington DC)

?>

Hello everyone. It’s been a while since I decided to write a series of blogs about my trip around US. My previous articles You can check here (Chicago) and here (NYC). And since I pledged to myself I would finish it up – I decided to write the last one, even though it has been more then 3 months ago :)

I want to reveal to you an interesting fact in the first place – a majority of Americans have never been in Washington and they have no temptation to do so. I found it rather odd: the first destination in Ukraine is Kyiv, in Poland – Warsaw, in France – Paris and on and on. And it’s super weird when you have to remind an American how the Lincoln memorial looks like and You get a response: “I’ve never been there”…

Washington DC is super friendly to newcomers: the road from the airport to the city centre takes 20 min by metro. And the metro is 5 min away from the airport (Reagan airport). You can imagine why I felt in love with it, can’t You? :)

Another though that occurred is: “New York is Donald Trump, whereas Washington is Abraham Lincoln”. Hard to explain, but I found people there more educated, more intelligent and well-mannered. Did I interact with them? – No. How do I know it? – I just feel it.

The majority of sigh-seengs: main memorials and museums are located in close proximity – in National Mall. Although everything on a short stem don’t let this fact fool You – it’s impossible to visit everything in short period (for me 4 days).

So let’s start:

1. Capitol building. World-know building that was build back in 18th century (ordered by Washington himself). Black minivans, sharp-dressed men with guns, governors  – important attributes :)IMG_3234

2. Ulysses Grant monument. Forgotten by many, a person who played crucial role in America’s establishment.

3. Museum of American History. Another cool fact about DC is that all the Smithsonian Museums are free. (Well tell it to american tax-payers….). I will be bold enough to state that it’s the best museum I have ever visited. It’s just gorgeous. Hint: “Americans in war” exhibition is worth to spend 4 hours on. BTW I spent an entire day there.IMG_3259

4. Washington memorial. The most recognisable Spike on Earth. It emits power and confidence, tranquility and nobility. Unexplainable, but You want to seat by for a little while and just admire it.IMG_3287

5. Lincoln Memorial. The first thing I wanted to see in Washington is Lincoln Memorial. Luther King’s “I have a dream” and massive demonstrations against Vietnam War taken place in from of the Memorial, by the reflective pool. You become a part of history.IMG_3325

IMG_3319It’s imposible to show all the beauty of Washington, but I believe I gave You an instant flavour of what this city is about and why people all over the world are keen to visit it!
