Slowly, we are arriving at the time of the year during which days are getting shorter, temperatures are dropping and most people prefer to stay in the warm home for as long as possible. Winter in Warsaw might be a challenge for people who are not used to it and love to spend time outdoors.

One group that is definitely concerned about harsh temperatures during the winter season is the one of outdoor sport lovers. Going out for a quick run or playing a round of football at one of the many parks in Warsaw during winter, is not as much fun as it is in the summer season. Frozen streets and high layers of snow suggest sending your running shoes to their well-deserved winter sleep.

However, this is really no reason for sadness. Living in one of the biggest cities in Europe comes along with many advantages. One of these advantages is to have thousands of possibilities for active people to exercise even though the weather outside suggests to stay at home.

A really interesting and yet quite unknown alternative to going to one of Warsaw’s plenty gyms, is to play a round of SQUASH. Squash is one of the fastest racquet sports in the world and requires the players to move, act and think quickly.

Generally, Squash is played by two players in a square-shaped court. They have to smash a small black ball to the front wall in a way that the other player has difficulties to reach it in time. Active players say that 30 minutes of Squash burn the same amount of calories than a one hour run. For those who are interested, the following link gives a good overview about the basic Squash rules: http://www.worldsquash.org/ws/rules.
