Back to movies from childhood or New York, New York

?>

Visiting the USA and not going to New York city is like drinking milk at a graduation party – possible , but you are missing out! So today, I’d like to share some experience and feelings I got being in one of the most desirable places on planet.

First of all I want to be clear – I was born and grew up in a post soviet country with a closed economy. So every US movie I saw, every NBA match I watched and every snickers I ate was considered like it was from another planet impossible to reach. So I saw one hundred thousands times all the NYC’s attractions: Times square, the Statue of Liberty, Chrysler Tower, Empire State Building, genuine subway station, Grand Terminal and 5th Avenue and much more more…..on the TV screen.

The first impression – IT LOOKS FAMILIAR. Every dead end, every street and square – I saw it somewhere…The entire city is so reminiscent of my childhood…

The exploration method was quite straightforward – reach Manhattan and start your journey. All the main places to visit are concentrated in the Island, so each day I started there.IMG_3098

The first stop was Central park. It is unbelievable how this oasis is preserved surrounded by all of those skyscrapers. People laying on the grass, jogging, walking, singing or even cycling. A truly amazing and peaceful place.

Next stop (not chronologically though) is Wall Street. The financial center of the world. The New York Exchange and JP Morgan building and much more. By the way JP Morgan…this banker was so powerful that he closed a deal of buying steel mills on total price equal to 7% of US GDP – on today’s measure something around $2 trillion. It was written on a banner by the building :) Again – the price of 2 Apples and 2 Googles… mind-boggling!

And this place is Grand Central Station. I bet you have seen it a million times – Die Hard, Home Alone and many others.

Times Square. What can I say? Everything is shimmering, burning, lite up, shines and sparkles and…this city never sleeps. Actually there was one movie depicting this place totally empty, but I will not unveil the name of it :)

And this is one of the most iconic towers – numerous Superman appearances around is a good endorsement of it. A true symbol of NYC.

Ok, I am a bad photographer :) Anyway this is the view from Brooklyn Bridge. A great bridge to walk across. Overcrowded. Long lines. People hustle people. Everything you like :)

What I obtained about Americans is the way they remember. They always will remember. 9/11 memorial.

There were many small and big things I should share with you, but the main idea is still the same – one can hate NYC; one can love it. But you will never ignore it’s significance, concealed beauty, its different mentality and the way it engulfs you.
